How metallic epoxy works
Metallic pigments are mixed into a clear epoxy and worked across the floor by hand. As the epoxy levels out, the pigments move and settle into swirls and depth. The floor is then sealed with a clear topcoat. Every floor is one of a kind, and colours can be layered for more contrast.
Where it works best
- Basements and rec rooms where you want a finished look without carpet or vinyl
- Home gyms and studios
- Show garages that see more display than daily wear
For a hard-working daily-driver garage, a flake floor usually hides wear better.
Metallic epoxy cost
Metallic and decorative epoxy systems typically run about $6–$12 per square foot (HomeStars garage floor coatings cost guide). These are general ranges, not quotes. Price depends on size, colours, prep and topcoat.
Common questions
Is a metallic floor slippery?
A high-gloss finish can be slick when wet. Anti-slip additives in the topcoat help, especially near entries.
Can I pick the colours?
Yes. You choose the base and metallic colours, and we can show samples before the install.
Does it work over in-floor heating?
Usually, yes, but it depends on the slab. We check before quoting.
